Building RepairSeeker
He built the software that reads repair shops' own websites for the repairs they list and any prices they publish. Visitors can search without an account and contact a shop directly. The How we rank page explains the rules that set the order of shops. Fried Pickles LLC, the company through which he runs his independent projects, operates the site.
His background and its limits
I'm a software engineer who builds directories and the software behind them. For RepairSeeker, I built the checks on data collected from shops' websites. I don't claim hands-on experience repairing devices.
His other work
Tim founded ChillMaps in 2023 as NA Beer Finder after keeping a list of places with non-alcoholic beer on his phone. It helps people find bars, restaurants and stores with non-alcoholic options through its website and iOS and Android apps. It maps more than 1 million venues in more than 150 countries.
At Web Publisher PRO, he is lead software engineer, building and maintaining WordPress sites for publishers. His work includes custom themes and plugins, CMS migrations, performance and hosting. He also works with APIs, Python scripts, SQL databases and Cloudflare Workers.
How the blog posts are made
Tim is responsible for what the blog publishes. An AI writing model drafts posts from sources collected by the site's pipeline. Posts must pass automated checks before publication, including a check that every number appears in a cited source. The editorial policy explains the process.
Who funds the site
Tim Katzgrau funds RepairSeeker himself. Shops pay nothing to be listed. Payment does not change the order of shops or what the blog says. Paid “Featured” placements are labeled as paid and never appear inside blog posts.
