Privacy policy

If you send a repair request, claim a shop or just browse RepairSeeker, this page tells you what happens to your information and what choices you have.

Who runs this site

RepairSeeker is operated by Fried Pickles LLC, a Florida limited liability company. The site is a US directory of phone, tablet, computer and game console repair shops and data recovery services. We, us and our mean that company throughout this policy. Contact contact@repairseeker.com about anything on this page, including privacy requests.

This policy covers the RepairSeeker website. Shops' own websites and Google Maps have their own privacy policies and are not covered here.

Where shop details come from

We show business details from the sources below so customers can find and contact repair shops.

  • Google. Google Maps Platform supplies Google Places data: the business name, address, phone number, website, opening hours, map position, Google rating, number of Google reviews and a link to the business on Google Maps. The ratings are Google's, and we label them as coming from Google.
  • The shop's own website. We read the shop's public pages. An AI model uses them to write a short description and list the repairs and devices the shop says it handles. The shop page says the description was written from that website. We keep the source page address for each listed repair. The description can repeat what the site says about the shop, including names of people it mentions, such as a founder.
  • Shop owners. Owners who claim a listing can add a description, repairs, their own opening hours and photos, and change the business name, phone number, website or address. A person checks photos and changes to those contact details before they appear. We remove location and camera details from photos before storing them. We keep a record of each change and who made it.
  • Our staff. Staff may correct shop details, mark a shop closed or hide a listing that is not a repair business.

A business can ask for a correction or removal through “Report a problem” on its shop page or by emailing contact@repairseeker.com. Owners can also use “Claim this free listing” on that page to claim and edit the listing.

When you browse

  • No ad tracking. We don't use ad networks or cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. We don't sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
  • Google Analytics. We use this service from Google LLC to measure pages viewed, approximate location, device type and the site that sent you here. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off. We don't send names, email addresses, phone numbers or the contents of quote requests to it. It runs only on public pages, never on shop owner pages, claim pages or staff pages.
  • Anonymous usage counts. We count page views and taps on shop call, directions and website buttons, plus quote and map buttons. Each count records the event, page, shop, device type such as phone or computer, and approximate country, state and city estimated by our hosting provider from your internet connection. Counts use no cookie, store nothing in your browser and have no identifier lasting beyond one page view. Nothing is sent when your browser signals Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. Owners who claim a listing can see their own listing's views and taps. We store the counts with Cloudflare.
  • Approximate location. Cloudflare, our hosting provider, estimates your city from your internet connection. We use that estimate to suggest nearby shops and choose where the map opens. We don't store it.
  • Device location. We use your position only with your browser's permission. Tapping “Use my location” prompts your browser to ask. If you already allowed access, the map may use your position when it opens without another tap. You can turn access off in browser settings. For the nearby shops list, your device rounds your position to an area about 7 miles across before sending it to us. We use that area only to find nearby shops. Your device sorts the shops by distance. On the map, your position stays in your browser and centers the map. The map loads shops in the areas on screen from us and map pictures from Mapbox. We never receive or store your exact position.
  • Security checks. Our hosting provider and our systems process IP addresses and request details to keep the site working and stop abuse, spam and automated scraping. Rate limits and bot checks are part of this work. We keep request logs temporarily. When we save information tied to an IP address, including with a quote request or claim, we store only a one-way scrambled code called a salted hash, never the IP address itself.

Quote requests

When you request a repair quote, you give us the device type, brand, model, problem and your message, plus a ZIP code or the shop. You also give your name, email address, phone number or both, and how you want to be contacted. Who receives it depends on the form you use.

  • The form on a shop's page. Only that shop receives your request.
  • “Get quotes from nearby shops”. Your request goes to up to 3 shops within 15 miles that have claimed their listings and chosen to receive requests. The form explains this before you send it. Staff may add a shop by hand under the same rules and limit. That shop's email says a person added it.

The shop gets your request and contact details in its RepairSeeker account and by email unless the owner turned those emails off. It can contact you about that repair. The request email lets it reply straight to your email address. You get an email saying where your request went. Staff can see requests to deliver them, stop spam and answer questions. We don't sell your details or share them with anyone else for marketing.

After 180 days, we delete your name, email address, phone number, message and scrambled IP code from our request records. The remaining device, problem and ZIP code details stay without anything that identifies you, so we can count requests. A copy already delivered to a shop's email is held by that shop. We can't delete that copy. Ask the shop to delete it.

Owner accounts and claims

To claim a listing, you give your name, your role at the shop and a work email address. We send one-time sign-in codes to that address. The codes expire after 10 minutes, and we store them only in scrambled, hashed form.

Your email address isn't shown on the shop's page. We use it to confirm your claim, sign you in, send the shop's quote requests and contact you about the listing, including claims or photos. You can turn quote request emails off and read requests in your account instead. We keep a record of your claim, including the version of the terms you agreed to, and each change you make.

Emails we send

We email claim and sign-in codes, repair requests to shops, confirmations to customers who sent requests, and notices to owners about claims, edits and photos. We send these through an email provider, such as Cloudflare Email Service or Postmark. Replies to quote request emails go to the customer who sent the request. Replies to our other emails go to contact@repairseeker.com.

Cookies

If you only browse, the only cookies you get from us are the Google Analytics cookies described below.

  • Google Analytics cookies. On public pages only, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by our Google Analytics ID. They last up to 2 years.
  • Owner sign-in. One cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It is renewed while you use the site and removed when you sign out.
  • Pending claims and sign-ins. Two short-lived cookies hold a claim or sign-in for up to 15 minutes while you enter the emailed code.
  • Staff access. Cloudflare Access sets its own cookie when staff sign in. Staff can also open a read-only preview of an owner's pages. That preview uses a cookie lasting up to 30 minutes, sent only to owner pages.

Cloudflare may set its own cookies for security and bot protection. Forms may show a Cloudflare Turnstile check, which tells people from bots.

Service providers

We use only the providers listed here, each for the work described below.

  • Cloudflare. Provides hosting, database and file storage, security and bot checks including Turnstile, anonymous usage counts and email sending through Cloudflare Email Service.
  • Google. Google Maps Platform provides business listing data, ratings and links to Google Maps. Google's own privacy policy applies when you open a Google Maps link.
  • Google Analytics. Google LLC provides this service to measure how visitors use our public pages. See “When you browse” for details.
  • Mapbox. The map page loads map pictures directly from Mapbox in your browser. Mapbox receives your IP address, browser details and the part of the map you are viewing. Our server fetches the small maps on shop pages and stores them with us, so Mapbox does not see you when you view those maps.
  • OpenAI. Its AI model reads public text from shops' own websites and writes shop descriptions. We send it no information about visitors, customers or owners.
  • Postmark. We may use Postmark to send email.

How long we keep information

Quote request contact details are deleted 180 days after you send the request, as described above. We keep owner account details while the account is open. Ask us to delete your account at contact@repairseeker.com. We may keep records needed for security, fraud prevention or legal duties. Owner sign-in lasts up to 30 days. Business listing information stays while the listing is on the site. We may keep records after a listing is removed or hidden, for example to stop a removed listing from being added again.

Security

The site uses encrypted connections through HTTPS. Cloudflare Access protects the staff area. We store sign-in codes and IP addresses only in scrambled form. No system is completely secure, and we can't guarantee that information will never be accessed without permission.

Your choices and rights

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, request a copy or ask us to correct or delete it. Email contact@repairseeker.com with your request. We may need to confirm it came from you. We answer every request and won't treat you differently for making one.

A state privacy law may give you more rights depending on where you live. We honor these requests from anyone, wherever they live. If we turn down a request, reply to our answer to ask us to look at it again. Your browser's Global Privacy Control signal turns off usage counts.

You can stop Google Analytics by blocking its cookies or scripts in your browser settings, or by installing Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Children

RepairSeeker isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information. If you think a child has sent us information, email contact@repairseeker.com and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

When our practices change, we'll update this page and show the new effective date below the heading.
